I had never heard of Tumbleweeds before today. Some co-workers were heading over for lunch after having read about it in the Edmonton Journal this week, so I tagged along.
It’s located in the Mayfield Industrial area, between the Aurora Hotel and “The Passion Vault”.
The interior is your run-of-the-mill pub/lounge type decor and atmosphere, though I will admit it does look better on the inside than on the out.
The menu has pretty much anything you could possibly want on it. Our table ordered everything from lobster ravioli to tortilla soup. I opted for the chicken enchiladas. We also ordered the cilantro and bacon dip as an appetizer.
Our server was really friendly… but, unfortunately it took a crazy amount of time for our food to come out. We ordered around 12:10 ish, and our lunch came out at 1:00! An awkward situation considering we were on our lunch break and trying to get back to work FOR 1:00.
I’m not sure if it was because I was so hungry at this point I could have chewed my own arm off, but the dip was pretty fantastic. The rich blend of cream cheese, sour cream, bacon, cilantro and cheddar cheese on top had our whole table gobbling this dish down.
My enchilada was huge. And extremely cheesy. No skimpin’ on the cheese here. I managed to scarf down a little over a half of it before giving up. It wasn’t the best enchilada I’ve ever had, but it was still pretty decent.
By the time we finished eating and paying, it was already around 1:30.
I might come back to Tumbleweeds sometime for an after work beer and wings, but will definitely head elsewhere for a quick weekday lunch.
