The Bothy – Downtown

The Bothy recently opened a new location downtown. It boasts the largest selection of scotch in the city. Despite not being much of scotch drinker myself, I was anxious to check it out.

The restaurant is really cozy and has a really nice ambiance. The lights are dimmed, the colors are all warm, rich tones and there’s a built in fireplace on one of the walls. Our server was really friendly and had some great advice on what scotch to order. They have 5 or 6 pages full of different scotches to order, ranging in price from $7 to almost $300!

After sipping on our drinks for awhile, we decided to order dinner. I opted for the Foothills Trio – beef tenderloin, rack of lamb and duck confit.

Alberta Foothills Trio -$23

I really enjoyed my meal. The tenderloin was wrapped in smoked bacon and breaded with herbs. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly with fresh herbs, olive oil and mint jus. The duck confit was equally as flavorful. It was served in a wild mushroom sauce , wrapped in a herbed crepe and topped with a sweet cranberry mustard hollandaise sauce. The dish was served with a side of creamy, garlic mashed potatoes and veggies.

My friends were also all very pleased with their choice.

Fish and Chips – $17

Steak and Mushroom Pie with Butternut Squash Soup – $18

Sliders – $18

As per usual, I couldn’t resist dessert. I ordered the tiramisu and my partner ordered the creme brule.

I have never seen a piece of tiramisu in a restaurant so big in my life!  (excuse the poor quality of the photo)

Berry Tiramisu – $8

The dessert tasted really fresh, especially topped with fresh blueberry and raspberries.  Delicious! This could easily be shared between two people.

All together, we all had a great night at The Bothy. I’m so happy they opened a downtown location – I could see myself spending a lot of time here. Would be a great spot for a date night or just to catch up with a group of friends.
